Manicures and pedicures sound like a great deal to relax or just to give a new touch to your nails. They can be relaxing and have many health benefits as well!
A manicure is a cosmetic aesthetic treatment for the nails and hands that can be performed at home or at a nail salon. A manicure comprises filing and shaping the free edge of the nails, using a cuticle pusher and cuticle nippers to press and trim any nonliving tissue (but not the cuticle or hangnails), treatments with different liquids, hand therapy, and the use of nail lacquer. The therapy is known as a pedicure when it is administered to the toenails and feet. If there is no willful damage to the nail lacquer, it can stay on for 2–3 days before needing a new manicure.
Painting designs on the nails and putting miniature decals or fake diamonds are examples of manicures (from 2 to 3 dimensions). Other nail treatments include French manicures, which involve the application of artificial gel nails, tips, or acrylics.
A pedicure, like a manicure, is a cosmetic treatment for the feet and toenails. Pedicures are utilised for aesthetic as well as medicinal purposes. They are famous all around the world.
Pedicures include not only nail care but also the use of a rough stone to remove dead skin cells from the the feet (often a pumice stone). Up to the knee, skin treatments such as granular exfoliation, moisturising, and massage are commonly used.
The Latin terms pedis, which means "of the foot," and cura, which means "care," are combined to form the word pedicure.
We invest a lot of time in planning and booking our manicures and pedicures in salons for the best results. Most of us go to professionals to do these procedures because we do not want to make any mistakes, yet some faults happen when we get these done. Why does it happen? Well, to be honest, there are certain things you need to keep in mind before and after getting them done, and if you do not know what they are, keep reading!
Do's -
1. Keep your hands and nails moisturised, especially after removing nail polish.
2. At least once a week, exfoliate your hands. Between your fingertips, dead skin cells tend to gather.
3. While most nail salons adhere to strict sanitation and disinfection procedures, make sure your nail technician has the required experience or licence.
4. Inspect the station for cleanliness, whether the nail technician washes her hands between clients, and whether dirty tools are strewn about. (Read: What your beautician won't tell you about manicures and pedicures.)
5. If you receive manicures and pedicures frequently, consider investing in your tools to use at the salon.
Don'ts –
1. Cuticles should not be sliced or pushed back too hard, as this might lead to infection. If you need to push them, do it gently after you've taken a shower or a bath. If you want to remove a small amount of excessive cuticle, you'll need to soak it first. For a maximum of three minutes, soak your nails in simple warm water.
2. Allow the polish to sit on your nails for more than two weeks. This will cause discolouration and damage to your nails. If you're using a dark colour, use a base coat to protect your nails.
3. Don't be afraid to inquire about how nail professionals clean their tools.
4. Before getting a pedicure, shave your lower leg for at least 24 hours.
5. To remove dead skin from the foot, use blades. Purchase a callus stone.
There are many small mistakes that we can make while getting our manicures and pedicures done. Being such a crucial thing to be looked after, our nails deserve the same love as we have for the rest of our bodies. So, follow these steps to give the best to your nails!
